Early Life
Jon is a native Oklahoman and Tulsan. As a youth, he lived with two brothers in his parent’s small home on the West side of Tulsa on the Sand Springs Line. He was baptized and confirmed in Holy Family Cathedral and remains a Catholic and devout Christian to this day. Jon graduated from Memorial High School in 1980. His father, Ray “Pat” Patton, was a hard working family man. Pat was a road driver for over 40 years with Yellow Freight System. His mother, Mary Patton, was a stay-at-home mom who worked hard to raise three sons. She later trained and worked as nurse. Like his two brothers, Jon’s father required his boys to find work during high school and college. Jon learned at an early age that an honest work ethic and making the most out of a given situation are characteristics to cherish and to build a life on. He also learned that being part of a family of modest economic means is not something that should limit your aspirations or your dreams. Nor is it something to be judged by.
After high school, Jon enrolled at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He took several semesters out of his college to work and to save money for his educational needs. He owned his own automotive repair business during this time and worked with his father on a small family farm near Anderson, Missouri. This business and farming knowledge, and the hard work that goes along with it, has helped make Jon what he is today. He has a passion for farming and he still farms with a friend on land near Muskogee, Oklahoma when he can find time away from helping those in need of legal counsel. The antique 1953 John Deere 720 tractor that he and his father rebuilt in the 1980’s still runs!
Jon enrolled at the University of Tulsa, College of Law in 1994, and graduated with his law degree in 1997. He became a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1997. The fact that Jon and his older brother, Ray, both became lawyers is a tribute to the hard work and sacrifices made by their parents. Both Jon and Ray are first-generation college graduates.
Jon remains a weekend farmer, enjoys hunting and fishing, and rides his vintage Harley Davidson motorcycle when he can find the time. Jon enjoys shooting sports of all types, and the environment and environmental issues are a high priority. Jon has always believed in personal safety and self reliance as a high ranking martial artist, and has had a firearm carry permit since permits became available 1995. He is long-standing Patriot Life member of the National Rifle Association, and has been member and supporter of conservation groups such as Duck’s Unlimited, Quail Unlimited, National Turkey Federation, and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
